With the start of the new IRacing V8 Supercars Americas, everyone was excited and keen to jump back into their virtual cars and take back to the competitive virtual field which has developed in the America's series throughout the last few seasons. With the addition of a new Tyre model (compound if you like), being added, this was certainly going to spice up the first round.
With everyone trying to get comfortable with their cars, Marlon claimed 2nd position on the grid behind Chad Chastain, whilst Curtis Chippeway starting in a strong 3rd.
When the race got under way, Curtis and Marlon McMullen tried to get into an early groove, trying to learn their cars and trying to get somewhat of a feeling for some more confidence. Whilst Chad pulled out a slight gap, Marlon and Curtis elected to pit on lap 14.
As they pulled out of the pits, Jake Burton was able to clear the Powerbond drivers which proved to be a crucial point of the race. With fresh tyres, Marlon was very keen and eager to make a pass early on to try and battle Chad in the 2nd stint for the win.
As Marlon launched a challenge on Jake, Jake placed his car in the right spots and was able to fend off Marlon which allowed Curtis, Beau Cubis and Tony Autridge to catch up join the party. More frustratingly for Marlon, he was losing more time to Chad.
With Jake running slightly wide into turn 1, Marlon pounced and ensured that he took the position. Unfortunately for Curtis he was in a fierce battle he could not get out of for the next few laps.
As Marlon chased after Chad, the 12 second gap seemed impossible to reduce in the final 10 laps, but Marlon tried everything he could! Whilst Curtis fell back to 5th position after running 3rd for a majority of the race, Marlon realised that not only did he have to push to chase Chad down, more that he had to push to try and keep a fast flying Beau Cubis off his back.
As the race dwindled down, the gap between Chad and Marlon dropped to 5 seconds in the last 2 laps. Unfortunately for Curtis, whilst being in the thick of the action, his luck eventually ran out! Looping it around on lap 30 of lap 32, dropping back to 12th respectively.
Coming into the last lap Marlon tried to hold off Beau Cubis one more time. As they came into the final corners, Marlon placed his car on the inside line which denied Beau of any chance of claiming 2nd position.
